The courtyard

Here in the courtyard, is the heart of Bohus. Here, many a tired soldier have lined up in the early morning hours. One wonders if the ordinary soldier could go into the bakery located to the east and taste a piece of freshly baked bread or visit the beautiful salons in the west where political meetings, dinners and wedding parties were held.

In June 1334, King Magnus, 18 years old, went on a courtship journey to the county of Namur in present-day Belgium. In Namur, the young king Magnus proposes to the then sixteen-year-old Blanche or Blanka as she was also called. Blanka is closely related to the French royal family, which makes her a suitable spouse.

The courtship is going well and the young people get engaged. In the autumn of the following year, Blanka’s, ships arrive here at the border between Sweden and Norway. Now they are preparing for a wedding at Bohus. They baked, slaughtered and brewed beer like never before. Magnus and Blanka’s wedding party was most likely be held right here in Kungssalarna at Bohus. The alliance is celebrated all over Norway.
