The new building on the eastern side of the courtyard was probably added towards the middle of the 15th century and has a distinctly residential character. This was most likely the castle cottage, the crew’s living room at this time. The name Nya magasinet was added at the end of the 17th century, when the building underwent a radical renovation. The courtyard façade would then be tiled and plastered, but over time the brick has been faded.
In the southern part of the store are the brewery and the bakery, and here the remains of the large baking oven and the brewery’s fireplace are still visible. About 16 barrels of beer could be brewed per batch, which is very efficient for this time. Consumption of beer is large because the drinking water often contained bacteria and was not considered safe to drink, which is also why children also drank beer at this time.
You can also see remnants of round brick ovens used to bake bread and round millstones used to press barley. The top two floors have been warehouses for storing oats and grains. The wall remains at the bottom have belonged to a square defense tower that was here before the warehouse was built.
